Spread across 225 acres in Mahalaxmi, Mumbai, the Mahalaxmi Racecourse is a horse racing track. This
racecourse was built and opened in the year 1883 and hosts horse racing in the city every year between the
months of November and April. The land where the racecourse has been constructed was created from a marsh
known as the Mahalaxmi Flats and has splendid views of the Arabian Sea.
The residents of Mumbai can use the racecourse for walking and jogging during the morning and the evenings

Designed along the lines of the Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne, Australia, the Mahalaxmi Racecourse is oval in shape. The length of the horse racing track is 2,400 metres and the total area of the racecourse is 225 acres. Not only is the racecourse one of India's oldest and most renowned horse racing tracks, but its vast expanses are also a venue for several parties and functions, including weddings. The Mahalaxmi Racecourse was donated by Sir Cusrow N Wadia and is now on lease to the Royal Western India Turf Club from the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai. In addition to hosting a horse racing season between November and April, the Mahalaxmi Racecourse also serves as a helipad. The racecourse is the only helipad in South Mumbai that is open for use by civilians.
Held annually at Mahalaxmi Race Course, the "Indian Derby" is the top horse racing event in the country and a Thoroughbred horse race. It takes place on the first Sunday of February and spans 2,400 metres. The event will be known as the 'HPSL Indian Derby'.
